A recluse by any other name...

An old art major acquaintance of mine contacted me through Facebook this past week.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Facebook, it can perhaps be described as MySpace lite (and if you don't know what MySpace is, I don't know what to tell you.) Initially geared towards highschool or college students, it seems to have been reaching up in the age brackets after having been around for a few years now. I don't think I'd know of it myself if I didn't work on a college campus and felt I needed to sign up back in '05 so that I could insist to a couple of students that the Facebook group titled "[my name edited to avoid search engines] is Superman" be immediately taken down.

It's still there, by the way.

I'd not seen nor spoken to this woman in sixteen years and, in fact, needed a bit of prompting as to who she was since I didn't quite recognize her name. I've found that while faces remain true, my memory for names, especially those beginning with common monikers like "Laura" is not quite as precise... unless you're talking about Laura Lynn Adams, but that's another story altogether for another day.

After clarifying who she was, though, she'd mentioned that she remembered me as being "mysterious and contemplative" classmate.

Funny how now, years later, I've been told that I can be distant and withdrawn.

What a difference a few years makes... at least in the terminology.
